The route

You start in Recklinghausen. You cross Rhein-Herne-Kanal, Deininghauser Bach, Emscher and Herdiecksbach on bridges, traverse several streams and roll along between settlement, forest and meadows. The route is rolling — 181 metres of elevation gain over 34 kilometres, just under 60 per cent asphalt, the rest gravel. Along the way you'll find two churches, the Reiterbrunnen, two museums of industrial history and, if you fancy a break, several cafés and ice-cream cafés as well as the beer gardens Zur Lohburg and Haus Hölter.
